Harvest Algoma is looking for strategic leaders to help shape the future of food security in our region.
Where We Are
In just one year, Harvest Algoma has evolved from a grassroots food rescue effort into an independent nonprofit with a focused mission: reduce food waste, strengthen local food systems, and ensure reliable access to nutritious food across Algoma.
We have momentum. We have community support. Now we need the governance infrastructure to match our ambition.
Why This Matters Now
We are building the foundations of a sustainable organization that will serve this community for decades. That means establishing rigorous financial oversight, developing a disciplined approach to fundraising, and creating systems that allow us to scale our impact responsibly.
This is formative work. The decisions made in the next 12 to 18 months will determine what kind of organization Harvest Algoma becomes.
Who We Need
We are recruiting board members with specific expertise in two critical areas:
Finance and Accounting
We need a CPA, CA, CFA, or equivalent professional who can provide board-level financial governance. This is about building accountability, ensuring transparency, and establishing the controls that allow us to grow with integrity.
Fundraising and Strategic Partnerships
We need people who know how to build relationships that generate resources through major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grant development, or community networks. Experience in professional fundraising, development, or connecting organizations to funding is essential.
What Board Service Involves
This is a working board with clear expectations:
- Governance and strategic oversight
- Active participation in committees aligned with your expertise
- Supporting leadership in building organizational capacity
- Helping set policy, direction, and long-term priorities
We respect your time. We also expect meaningful engagement.
What You’ll Gain
- A seat at the table during a pivotal chapter in Harvest Algoma’s development
- The opportunity to apply your skills to work with visible, measurable community impact
- Collaboration with committed professionals and community leaders
- The satisfaction of building something durable, not just maintaining what exists
This role will appeal to people who want to solve real problems, build functional systems, and contribute their expertise to work that matters beyond their professional life.
Timeline
We are looking for the right people, not the fastest applicants. Board members will join in
summer 2026, with conversations beginning now.
