At Harvest Algoma, our work is about more than rescuing food and getting it to the people who need it. It’s about people coming together, supporting one another, and building a stronger community. At the heart of it all are our incredible volunteers.
On October 27, our team and volunteers gathered for a Volunteer Roundtable to celebrate recent achievements, share ideas, and discuss what’s ahead for Harvest Algoma.
Celebrating What We’ve Achieved Together
The past few months have brought many reasons to celebrate, including a sold-out ANAH event and a successful Community BBQ that welcomed approximately 500 attendees.
Another important milestone was Harvest Algoma officially becoming a registered charity. This new status allows us to issue eligible donation tax receipts and opens up new opportunities to strengthen community support for our mission.
These milestones reflect the dedication of our team, volunteers, supporters, and community partners. Every helping hand, shared idea, and act of kindness helps us continue our work across the Algoma District.
Looking Ahead: Sending Food North + East
One of the exciting initiatives discussed was Sending Food North + East, a pilot project designed to help deliver larger quantities of non-perishable food to food banks in Blind River, Elliot Lake, Wawa, and White River.
Through this initiative, we aim to share food more effectively with our regional partners and help provide a greater variety of non-perishable items to communities across the region.
Our warehouse volunteers may also help prepare these monthly deliveries by sorting and packing food for distribution.
Thank You for Being the Heart of Harvest
Our volunteers bring their time, skills, energy, and compassion to everything they do. Their contributions make our work possible and help us build a community where more people can access the food they need.
Of course, no gathering is complete without good food and great company! We wrapped up our roundtable by sharing delicious pizza and snacks, enjoying time together, and celebrating the people who make Harvest Algoma so special.
To every volunteer who stands alongside us: thank you for being part of the heart of Harvest. We’re grateful for everything you do and look forward to all we’ll accomplish together.
Every contribution helps us continue our work to improve food access and reduce food insecurity across Algoma. To learn more about how you can support our work or to make a donation, visit harvestalgoma.ca/donate.
