About Harvest Algoma

From Vision to Vital Resource

Harvest Algoma began as an initiative of the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma, born from a commitment to combat food insecurity. In 2018, the former Canadian Croatian Hall was transformed into a bustling Food Resource Centre. Our Centre’s coolers and kitchen enable us to rescue perishable food and distribute them to where they’re needed most.

A New Chapter

In 2023, the baton was passed to the Rural Agri-Innovation Network (RAIN), a division of Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC). This shift represented more than a change in leadership; it was a significant stride toward sustainability and innovation. Our mission has evolved, but our heart remains the same.

More Than Just Food

We’re not just distributing food; we’re empowering lives. Our facilities, including a warehouse, large commercial kitchen, and greenhouses allow us to support over 70 local non-profit agencies and programs. We play a key role in the region’s food system, making sure that nutritious food reaches those who need it most.

Our Future

Our goal is to become a key player in nurturing culinary and agri-food expertise. This includes expanding our capacity to handle a greater volume of food and encouraging creativity in youth. We’re dedicated to providing meals and equipping our community with practical skills for sustainable living.
