'Hawks Helping Hunger' raises 360 boxes of cereal!

‘Acts of kindness in a community can have a domino effect,’

This was the very important message that Jennifer Runde, grade 5/6 teacher at Grand View School wanted to instill in her students. To tie into their social studies unit on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the positive impacts that they have, the class decided to start their own NGO: ‘Hawks Helping Hunger’.

Their initiative aimed to feed community members in need, so they organized a cereal drive for their school with the goal of raising 300 boxes. Knowing of our mission to distribute food to those in need within Algoma, Jennifer reached out to ask if we would be interested in collecting the cereal at the end of their initiative. We happily agreed! Not only did they meet their goal, but they went above and beyond – the school gathered 360 boxes of cereal!

To celebrate meeting their goal, the school created a massive domino run in their gymnasium with the cereal boxes they gathered – watch below to see it in action:
