Last year, the community helped Harvest Algoma build a 108-foot picnic table in support of local food security. This year, Algoma’s Longest Picnic Table is returning — and Harvest Algoma is hoping to make it even longer.
The original table was built by retired community member Denis Beaulieu, one six-foot section at a time. Eighteen sections were joined together to create the 108-foot table, which became both a fundraiser and a symbol of bringing the community together around food.
Now, Harvest Algoma is inviting the community to help beat that record.
Each $20 donation sponsors one additional foot of the table and helps cover the cost of materials needed to extend it. If enough donations are received, this year’s table will stretch beyond its previous 108-foot length.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will directly support Harvest Algoma’s ongoing food rescue and food security initiatives.
The completed table will be featured at the 2026 Harvest Community BBQ on Friday, September 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Harvest Algoma, located at 446 Second Line E. Community members will be able to gather around the table and enjoy a hot dog or hamburger together.
